A sports sparring video that I found on youtube website is test of skill of both two contestants, and I am not satisfied and very disappointed with the match results.
I am a Filipino and Arnis Stick form of Martial Arts are very familiar and some of the olds teaches me how to practice Arnis, and one of our subject in school days before is a Physical Education regarding Arnis.
But I am also knowledgeable in Chinese Jian (Kiam Sut) Straight Sword Play in a Taoist form of Chinese Martial Arts and I know that Chinese Sword are more powerful compare to Arnis, even if Arnis stick converted to a tres-cantos steel arnis, still a Chinese Flexible Sword will surely win against Arnis.
But it depends upon the fighter on how he perform his technique to his advantages and not just comparing a tool against a tool, since either a Filipino Arnis or Chinese Jian Sword are all considered as an extension of a fighter’s arm.
Therefore, it depends upon the user, as the saying goes:
“The sharpest edge of the sword doesn’t locate on its blade, or on its tip; as it is found on the mind of the beholder upon how he uses his technique to his advantages.”
On this link shows that the Filipino Arnis Wins against Chinese Jian Sword:
I see the error regarding the user of the Chinese Sword that he didn’t use the exact technique, instead, he fought defensively and most of his techniques are very basic.
One of the best techniques on how to use a Chinese Jian Shu Sword is if successfully intercept opponent’s Arnis strike, the Chinese sword must immediately execute a 360 rotation in a Lutos Stance Position while attack the lower level feet of the Arnis Fighter, either point or not, the Sword user must execute a reverse 360 that automatically jumps up in the air (from a lutos stance) and attack the top most portion of the opponent.
A diagonal stance while neutralize if ever the Arnis opponent counters.
Another link shows that the Chinese Jian Sword Wins against Filipino Arnis:
As I said, it depends upon the beholder on how he use his weapon, the correct timing and the follow-up of techniques is a must, and the body and mentally condition too that counts.
