Rice Palay Plant Insect Problems: Armyworm, Cutworm, Ants, And Mealybugs

ARMYWORM
Their Scientific Parasite Name of such pests insect crawlers is Mythimna Separata; a color yellow orange type of worm that looked like a baby leeches, they can instantly appears in numbers and there are plenty classes of these type of worm.

If they finished consume all of the farmer’s rice palay leaf hectare plantations, they immediately migrate to other neighbors newly planted rice palay plants. Even all types of different grasses are not excuses to these parasitic worms. The Armyworm Larvae chooses to eat usually the rice palay leaves while leaving only the roots, stem and stalks.

CUTWORM
The Scientific name

of this Cutworm is Spodoptera Litura, and they loved to live in dry rice palay plants in order to complete this life cycle, this is one of the headache worm pests as comments of the farmers.

Those rice palay plants that contain fresh water on hectare mud are usually pestered by their larvae that come from other neighboring rice farm.

It should be noted that those young Cutworms loved to eat rice palay plant leafs; while those adult larvae loved to eat most of the rice palay plant such as stem, stalks, and leafs.
Cutworms also pestered especially those stem of a young nursery rice palay plants.

ANTS
“Langgam” in Phil. Tagalog dialect, “Subay” in

Phil. Hiligaynon dialect, its Scientific Name is Solenopsis Geminata.

The reason why those continuous growing of rice palay plant (especially in a Direct Seeding Technique) grows not in ordered places, and plenty of palay seeds planted but few of the plants only shows (few grows while many are missing) is because of the Ants are responsible for stealing the seeds.

MEALYBUGS
The Scientific Name of Mealybugs is Brevennia rehi, pests usually found inside the hollow leaf and they loved to seep the rice palay plant’s juices (water inside the plant) resulting to a plant’s malnutrition. Extreme damages usually the rice palay plant cannot bear its fruit seed.

You’ll notice soon that some plant part areas are visibly deteriorated while growing. This type of reddish colored pests sometimes it looks white, soft, no flight wings and looks something wrapped in whites.

They gathered themselves in numbers and sticks to the rice palay plant’s stalks up to the extended leaf.
